Are you a BB user on Rogers Wireless?
Hi fellow golfer,
If you are a BlackBerry user on the Rogers Wireless network, please leave a message below and tell us about your experience.
Some of our Rogers BB users are using the app just fine. And others are having issues. So, we’re hoping to start a conversation about configuration and phone types, and figure out what’s up!
When you leave a message below, you’ll help us track down the issue, and help your fellow Canadian golfers as well.
Thanks for your input -
Travis

My SbS responds that some error occured and asks to try agan.
Having trouble opening any hole on any course in the Edmonton area (didn’t try any other area).
Same issue as Claudia. I can find the courses but it wont load up the holes.
SbS worked perfectly till I loaded version 6 software. Now I get a hole or 2 in and it fails. I am thinking some setting in this lousy V6.? Software is wrong.
Worked well last year, but now it rarely works. Comes up with the message. Java.lang.illegalargumentexception.
Program has never worked, keeps giving error messag…I have given up already….I don’t have time for useleSs tech stuff, email me when its fixed and I will give it one more try.
Not working for me on any course. will work for 1 hole then i get an error message.BB Bold
Worked well last year, but now it never works. Comes up with the message. Java.lang.illegalargumentexception just before loading any hole
Worked well last year, but now it rarely works. Comes up with the message. Java.lang.illegalargumentexception. It worker good last year. I believe the issue is with software update v6. I tried reintalling SbS and no look. I can find the courses but it hangs in the first hole and shows the java error. Please, help!
Have not had a chance to use it yet.
Not working in Manitoba.
I have a BB Bold and it worked fine last year…this year first the distances were off by 5-10 yards, now I can load a course and use it for the first hole and then I get an error msg and eventually it freezes me out!
Will work for a few holes then get similar Java error. Restarting the app helps for a few holes but eventually fails again. 9800 running V6.
Also having trouble – starts out fine and 3 or 4 holes into a round and I get an error message – couldn’t tell you what it is but i will log in again for the next round – it does ask to try again… its quite annoying actually.
It works only sometimes. I have trouble opening the app. It always claims that something is blocking the app from opening when I am have already found the course. Last year it worked very well. This year it is nothing nut trouble. My friends all have gps watches, binoculars, and other useful tools. I am using their yardages because sbs is not working. Last year I was proud to use sbs, like I found something that my friends didn’t know about. This year they just laugh. Not happy.
Loaded once then never again. Won,t load and will not allow any course. Looks like I will have to delete. And maybe re load at later date
Found my course. Never loaded. BB Curve
I have used this app for r or s’timesa this year. App works fine the only trouble i get is that sometimes it looks like i m out of range for getting cell signal.
When that happens always same location on the course then the app can t give me the info but i guesss it snormal no signal no info
Oo e nd hole don’t work anymore
holes wont load, get the java illegal arguement error.

Yes, this worked well for me last year. This year I got it to work for part of one hole ONCE! I recommended it to a few friends last year and theirs works fine. Same phone same operating system. Different Network.
Bold 9700 os 6. I don’t buy the problem as being OS 6, given that my friend’s works perfectly fine on BELL…
I am on Rogers in ONTARIO Canada. Yes I get the same Java error message
fines hole but give connection error
Ditto many of the above.. Have tried to use it on several courses in Vancouver.. it finds the course no problem, but once I try to load the first hole, I get a big error and that’s it.
Have uninstalled.
i am on the torch and the range finder works like it did on my curve except for the cursor. no other problems that
i know of. i have used it in the ottawa area and the malone, new york area.
SBS Pro Looper crashes within a few minutes and shows an error message. I’ve sent the error message to SBS several times.
My wife has the original SBS which also crashes after a short period.
- Both are BlackBerry Torch 9800 on Rogers. Halifax, Nova Scotia.
- SBS worked fine last year on BB Curve 8900/Rogers.
SBS tells me an “APN” error occurs everytime on every cousre I’m on. The best I can do is two holes into a course before I can’t use it anymore.
Solution: Let me start with what I found helps with the error; soft restart your phone (alt, right shift, del) or take the battery out and put it back in. It forces SBS to shut down and when it restart, it worked for me.
I live in Toronto area and I get the same error as people above using a BB bold 9700. The application finds the course, it starts loading and even tells you the distance to the pin on the hole but the map never shows up and ends up giving an error message. But by a soft restart, it works fine.
Get an error after a few holes – cannot get through the round – have uninstalled.
Only played one round so far this year – I wasn’t using the range finder (scorecard only).
No issues with that round, but not necessarily looking forward to the next round when I attempt to use the range finder.
Rogers customer in Ontario
I have the same issue as above. the software would load the course and I would get through 1-2 holes and then give me an error. I can’t remember the exact error – but at that point – no amount of re-loading or phone restart helps.
I’m in Vancouver, on the Rogers network, and I have the Bold 9700. Last year it worked ok. It would work for maybe 2-5 holes in a row with no problems, then it would freeze or lock up and I’d have to exit and restart the program, or even restart my phone.
This year when I started using it (2 times so far), there would be an error message when I tried to load up a course (sorry, can’t remember what the error message said). I will try it again and report back, but I hope it starts working again…it’s a great app!
This is the third time I have used sbs this year. I worked perfectly today and and one other time about 4 weeks ago. I just used range finder.
I had also tried it 2 weeks ago at a course in Oshawa – the program froze…i tried to load multiple times with no success!!
I use the BB Torch on the Rogers Network
Thanks so much everybody for your comments. You’re helping us narrow down in on the issue. This is kinda like investigative work… the more info we have the better.
Right now, I’m especially interested in the type of phone you’re using and the software platform.
Thanks!

BB Curve 9300 – not sure about platform, installed about a week ago
Bb Torch
Worked a few times…but mostly it works for a period of time then fails.
Tried!
It would not work and it locked up my BB had to delete it to get my BB to work again.
Similar to other comments-works fine for 2 or 3 holes then I get an error message telling me the course cannot be found. Try to resign in-same process happens again or can’t get the course at all. And may be just me-I play the same course -I need to find it by doing a Search every time-cannot save the course for access next round.
Last. Year worked fine, this yeaar will not load any holes, can find the courses, keep score, but no GpS distances, or hole view. At home when connected to WiFi it seems to display the holes fine, but that does not do much good on the course
Blackberry Bold OS6
it freeze after 2 hole
Hey all,
If you’re subscribed to this thread, please come back and tell me your phone type and OS.
Thanks!
In case there are those that don’t know where to get this information – go to “Options” Menu and then select “About”. OS is the third line down.
My Phone is Blackberry 9000
Version: 4.6.0.162 (Platform 4.0.0.155)
Hi there, I am an iphone user and and your service hasn’t worked since late last season. Just so you know. May be a few bugs to work out for you. I can only imagine. Thought the iphone updates would help things out but to no avail. Loved the service while it worked. Thought it might be a problem with my phone but every other app works sooo…
Have a great day!
Hi Tim,
Sorry to hear the app isn’t working for you… I’m sending you a private thread to follow up.
I used this APP all last year and played over 25 rounds and it worked fine. Now I can’t get it to work at all.
I’m using a BB Curve 8900 Version (4.6.1.250), Platform (4.2.0.113)
I am Blackberry user on Rogers and I have the same issues. I get through a few holes and the it stops working. No yardage or GPS tracking. SBS will show the holes but with no information. Worked great last year. Using OS6 with 9870 Bold.
Will not work for me any longer. Gives me “general error”.
I am a rogers subscriber. Sbs on my blackberry bold 9700 is hit and miss on many courses in canada. The good thing about the Sbs app is even when the range finder and ariel doesn’t work you can still use your scorecard and send in your results.
I had a blackberry bold 2 last summer and this program worked with no issue, over the winter i upgraded to a torch and ever since i have had issues with receiving an error. It happens at random, some times i can play a few holes and then an error happens, sometimes it will let me play the first 9, and after i hit continue it gets an error, someties it doesnt let me use it at all.
I have resorted to using my work blackberry bold 2 on which is on the telus network and i have never had an issue.

The individual holes load but then, stop showing the distances. then it will freeze up, i have removed the ap and reloaded the app and it still happens.

SbS not working … same java error … please, help …
Is it possible to get an update what you guys are doing to resolve this issue? and possibly a time frame as to when you think you might get it resolved?
I would really like to give it a try before golf season ends.
Cheers!
SBS said they don’t don’t know how to fix this issue. They’re saying Rogers is at fault so we’re SOL.
Hey guys,
We have a developer dedicated to fixing this issue right now. It’s slow going for BB development these days because of all of the OS’s and screen resolutions and connection strings to support.
But, we’re working our way through. I don’t have a specific date when it will be ready – but I’ll keep this thread updated as I know more.
Travis
I have a BB Bold but am on Telus. SBS does not work on it either. Last year was fine. This year I can get the courses, I can get the overview of the holes and I can get yardage to the green if I click a point on the hole, but I do not get automatic yardage readings. I have stopped using it. Too annoying.
Ps. I am in Toronto.
Hi Charles,
Turns out, this issue is not specifically related to Rogers, and not specifically isolated to Canada.
Any BB user with OS6 will have problems with the current version of SbS. We are working on it now… hoping to roll out an updated version of the app in the near future.
I’m using OS 5 (platform 5.2) bundle 1385 on curve 8900 and having problem with all the courses.
surprisedly i work fine @ home on wi-fi.
When do you think there will be a new version for BB with front, center, back distance of the green ?
Thanks
Hi Bruce,
The problem with OS5 is directly related to the way BB updated connection string to the Internet. So, it makes sense that it works fine for you while on a wi-fi at home.
We’re working on the fix now, which I believe will include the front/back distance view as well.
Not sure of the release date, but we are working nights and weekends on it…
Travis
Big Gig,
any update on this issue since you have DEDICATED developer to it since May/June?
As an scorecard buyer, i’m not very happy to have to move my score to somewhere else.
Other fellows : give a try with greenfinder.com which cost 3$ a month through Rogers (if you started loosing patience like me)
Cheers
