My swing fell off the ugly tree. But then…

January 12th, 2011 — 2:43pm

Howdy fellow golfer,

Who taught you how to swing a club?

For me – it was my Dad.

But, Dad didn’t know what he was doing… (not then anyway… now he’s
gotten quite good because of some instruction and lots of practice)

So, for a long time, my swing theory pretty much consisted of: keep
your left arm straight, keep your head still.

Do you have a swing theory?

Or, do you just read Golf Tips Mag, and watch Chuck the Putter, and
hope for the best?

Those resources are fantastic if you have a solid swing, rooted in
good fundamentals.

But if not, you’re just gonna confuse yourself and never reach your
golf potential…

Over the last two weeks, I’ve sprinkled some PurePoint golf tips into
your Daily Golf Tips email. I hope you’ve enjoyed them. Because, if
you’re in the market for better golf – the PurePoint swing is worth a
look.

http://www.purepointgolf.com/swingbyswing.php

Right now, you get 25% off their DVD system for the full golf swing.

In addition, if you order before Sunday, I’ll throw in the Swing by
Swing Scorecard and Statistics for free. Just send me your PurePoint
order receipt, and we’ll take care of you.

We will also send you a couple of free bonuses:

* “The 10 Most Common Mistakes Amateurs Make on the Course” – a PDF
download based on the life lessons of one of the most effective and
ruthless scorers this game has ever seen: Raymond Floyd, winner of 4
Major Championships. Raymond Floyd was the first to admin he was not
long off the tee, and lacked skills in areas where other pros
excelled. He never started winning until he learned how to “score”.

* Golfer Average Statistical Breakdown for different scoring levels.
When you own the Scorecard and Statistics, you’ll be able to easily
keep track of your Greens in Regulation, Putting Average, and much
more. This excel spreadsheet will help you track your game, and where
you can find the lowest hanging fruit to improve your golf scores.

To learn more about the PurePoint full swing DVD’s, check it out here:
(and remember to send me your order receipt so I can give you free
lifetime access to the Scorecard and Statistics Module for your Swing
by Swing app)

Finally, a video with Impact

January 12th, 2011 — 2:42pm

Howdy fellow golfer,

Perhaps the biggest difference between pros and amateurs is the
consistentcy of impact.

Pros hit the ball clean, on the sweet spot, nearly every time.

They are consistent.

Amateurs… not so much!

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/perfect-impact-position/

When you can hit the ball cleanly, and consistently, in the same spot
every time, you’ll experience a whole host of benefits, like:

* Consistency in ball flight (might not be straight yet – but it will
be consistent, and you can build a game around that)

* Consistency in distance

* Stopping quicker on the greens (allowing the grooves to do their
job)

* Increased confidence in your swing

Are you putting yourself in the perfect impact position?

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/perfect-impact-position/

Love this game!

The Science of Happy Gilmore

January 6th, 2011 — 5:03pm

Howdy fellow golfer,

Ever seen the movie Happy Gilmore?

It is a golf classic!

Really… REALLY funny. For my money, even better than Caddyshack.

If you’ve seen it, you know he has a funky hockey-style swing. He runs
up to the ball and blasts it with incredible power – like you could
never get from standing still and swinging.

Of course, no self-respecting golfer would ever do it on the course…

But… have you ever wondered just how that swing compares in power
and accuracy to a normal golf swing?

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/happy-gilmore-distance/

OK, so at least one really well respected golfer would try it!

Some guys convinced Padraig Harrington (2008 player of the year,
winner of 3 major championships) to get “Happy”.

See how the “Happy” compares to a normal golf swing in both distance,
accuracy, and self-respect, here:

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/happy-gilmore-distance/

Oh yeah – and if you’re a golfer and haven’t seen the movie… run to
the store and buy it now. Or tell your kids to skip the tie this year
and buy you Happy Gilmore instead.

Never again will your divot go farther than your ball…

January 6th, 2011 — 5:02pm

Until Sunday, the guys at PurePoint Golf are offering $25 off
their instructional DVD set, to Swing by Swing members only.
(And if it doesn’t do everything they say it will, they’ll
not only refund your money, but send you $100 as well…)

http://www.purepointgolf.com/swingbyswing.php

Hi Golfer,

Here is email lesson #3 of 4 from the pros at PurePoint Golf.

Have you ever been in this situation?

You’re playing a par 4, and have hit your first shot in
the fairway. But, you’re in-between clubs for your next shot.

Instead of smoothing a higher club, you decide to power
a more lofted club. You pull out the wedge, and begin your
pre-shot routine…

You picture the target.

You picture the perfect shot, taking off after you smash it,
landing in the perfect place.

Then you take a hard swing, and

CHUNK!!

… you take out more dirt than ball…

The divot goes 25 yards, your ball goes 30 yards, and your
friends are rolling in the fairway, laughing.

Well, today’s lesson will cure this ailment once and for all!

Here’s how to never hit another fat shot:

The Cure for the Fat Shot

This problem may be easier to fix than you think.

You may not realize it, but your back shoulder may be dipping
towards the ground.

This move forces the club to hit the ground too early. Most
of the time it happens when you are really trying to get into the
ball.

Imagine…You’re 200 yards out and you’ve chosen to hit the 4
iron. When you’ve got it in your head that you have to hit the ball
hard to get it there, it’s the natural tendency to start your downswing
with the hips in an effort to “really get into the ball”. That may
work in baseball, but not in golf.

I’d like to take you through what happens if you make that move in
golf.

First, get into your setup position, now take your
backswing and hold it at the top. Now move only your hips
horizontally towards the target, and notice the way it forces your
back shoulder to “dip”. If you’ve made that “dip” with your back
shoulder, it’s over. You are going to hit behind the ball 90% of
the time, and if you do make good contact, you’ll probably end up
with a killer slice. Lateral movement is no good for the golf swing.

To avoid this problem, and to simplify your golf swing, keep the
lower body out of the equation.

If you really want to get into the ball, start your downswing with
your arms. It’s tough to do if you have a habit formed, but once
you get used to it, you won’t be hitting the ball fat anymore.

Most golfers over-emphasize the weight shift. If you keep your
hips still, the weight shift will still occur, but it will happen
naturally.

Get to the top, keeping your leading arm as straight as possible.
Now start down at the ball with your leading arm fully extended.
Your head hasn’t moved laterally, and your hips haven’t moved
laterally. Now imagine the entire golf swing, through impact,
occurring underneath the upper body.

Concentrate on keeping your front shoulder “down” on the
ball. This will enable you to keep your swing on the correct plane,
and it will help your hands to keep up with your body. Don’t let
that shoulder come up and away from the target before impact as
that will cause your body to get ahead of your hands leading to fat
shots and slices.

($25 off until Sunday!)

Only 20% of amateurs do this properly, because…

January 6th, 2011 — 5:01pm

This is the second (of three) videos on the PurePoint Golf Swing.

http://www.purepointgolf.com/swingbyswing-video2.php

In this video, David describes:

* One thing pros do *every time* (which amateurs only do 20% of the
time) because it increases consistency AND distance.

* Where your arms should be during the swing because it is
a repeatable system, effective for any shot

* When to “arc” and when to “drop” to make perfectly flush contact
with the golf ball every time

* One part of your body which should not move during the downswing
because you don’t want to get ahead of yourself (hint: it’s not your head)

* Why most amateur golfers have a hard time “keeping up” with their
swing – and how to fix it

* What a golfer with handicap of 10+ should do to minimize slice, because
it will cause a night-and-day shift in your ball flight

http://www.purepointgolf.com/swingbyswing-video2.php

Please note: You’ll see a sales letter below the video on this page.
But, even if you don’t want to purchase anything today, the video
itself is valuable because of the honest, straight-forward information.
It is definitely worth a good look.

Thanks for watching!

How to Hit the Ball Well from Uneven Lies

January 6th, 2011 — 5:00pm

Get $25 off PurePoint instructions DVD’s, and if your game doesn’t
improve just the way they say it will, they’ll refund you, AND
send you $100 as well.

http://www.purepointgolf.com/swingbyswing.php

Hi Golfer,

This is tip #4 of 4 from the guys at PurePoint Golf.

How to Hit the Ball Well from Uneven Lies

I know some of you are laughing under your breath wondering what I
am doing writing a tip on UNEVEN LIES.

What in the world could I possibly know about uneven lies living in
Scottsdale, Arizona?

Well, it is the Grand Canyon State for starters, but yes you’re
right, we do not face as many uneven lies as someone from North
Carolina, for example. However, there are plenty of times during
the course of a round when we are faced with a golf ball that might
be on a side hill lie.

Before I begin, I am going to first give you the definition of the
four uneven lies in golf.

Uphill Lie – The easiest of the four uneven lies. The ball is level
with your feet but the slope is up-hill, we refer to this as an
uphill lie.

Downhill Lie – A ball that is level to your feet but the slope is
down hill, probably the second most difficult shot in golf.

Ball Below Feet – The most difficult shot in golf is when the ball
is below your feet

Ball Above Feet – The fourth uneven lie is when the ball is above
your feet.

Don’t get confused between an uphill lie, and when the ball is
simply above your feet. These are 2 different lies, and should be
addressed separately. Also, don’t get confused with the downhill
lie, and the ball being below your feet. Again, these are 2
different lies.

Let’s start with the easiest shot in golf, the up-hill lie. If you
struggle with this shot, you probably swing the golf club too
vertical into the ground and hit a fat shot. Before you prepare for
an uphill lie, you need to think of a few important items first.

1. Make sure you take a less lofted club. When you have an uphill
lie, it will make the ball go HIGHER and SHORTER.

2. The ball will have a tendency to hook to the left, so aim a
little to the right.

3. To avoid hitting the shot fat, check your shoulder alignment and
make sure they are parallel to the ground you are standing on. If
you are on an uphill lie, your back shoulder should be a little
lower that your leading shoulder.

4. The ball should be positioned according to what club you are
using, as though you were on a level lie. (A bit forward for longer
clubs.)

5. You want to make sure you follow through HIGH after impact.

Now we can move on to one of the hardest shots in golf, the down
hill lie. If you have a tendency to struggle with this shot, the
miss hit is usually a top. Follow the steps below and you will see
a huge change in your down hill shots.

1. Because the ball will fly lower, you can take a more lofted club
to help the ball go a little higher.

2. The ball will have a tendency to curve to the right, aim a little
to the left.

3. If you have your shoulders at address tilted level to the down
slope of your lie, this will encourage the club to swing DOWN into
the ball (correct) and not up in the down swing. Thus, you will hit
the bottom of the ball and not the top.

4. Play the ball in your stance according to the club you are using
(again, a little forward for a longer club).

5. You want to make sure you follow through LOW to the ground after
impact.

Now we are back to an easy shot, the ball above our feet. If you
follow the steps below, you will not hit the ground behind the ball
anymore, and the ball above your feet will become your absolute
favorite shot in golf

1. If you struggle with hitting the ball fat in these shots, make
sure you are standing taller than your normal stance.

2. The ball will have a tendency to fly to the left, aim a little
farther to the right.

3. DO NOT BEND YOUR KNEES

4. This is the main point, the golf club wants to swing more AROUND
your body, let it…DO NOT TRY TO MAKE A NORMAL SWING…let the club
swing around you.

THE HARDEST SHOT IN GOLF. The dreaded, (I can’t believe this is
happening to me) BALL BELOW YOUR FEET golf shot. You have come to
the right place, below is the answer.

1. When the ball is below your feet, you will have a tendency to top
it to the right, whiff the ball, or shank it.

2. The address is the most important part of this shot. Bend your
knees and bend WAY over at address. You ALMOST can not bend TOO
much.

3. The ball will have a tendency to go to the right, aim farther
left.

4. The golf club wants to swing up and down, NOT around. LET IT…It
will feel like a lob swing, this is correct. IF you make your
normal swing, you will whiff the ball completely.

Now, forget everything you knew about uneven lies and give this a
try. I KNOW IT WILL HELP! Get back to us with all of your golf
successes.

Remember – Swing by Swing users get $25 off!

extend the deadline.)

Jack did something genius

January 6th, 2011 — 4:59pm

In the golf swing, ball position is important…

When your ball is out of position (too far forward, or too far back),
you can swing perfectly and spray your shot anywhere…

Jack Nicklaus did something genius with ball position.

He eliminated the problem! And, had perfect ball placement on every
single shot (no matter which club he was using).

To learn how to create more consistency with your shots (quit
“guessing” about ball placement), check this out:

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/jack-nicklaus-ball-position/

This 2:21 video is a perfect description of the importance of ball
position, and an explanation of the genius way Jack Nicklaus handled
the tricky issue. It is by Jay Golden (former member of the PGA
National Teaching Committee), you’ll definitely take something
valuable away from this video.

Enjoy!

The Golden Bear’s Golden Rule of the Golf Swing

January 6th, 2011 — 4:58pm

Jack “The Golden Bear” Nicklaus says:

The rules allow 14 different clubs, but you only need to learn,
basically, one swing.

… The grip should be the same for all shots

… The aim should be the same for all shots

… The ball position should be the same for all shots

… The basic swing arc and plane should be the same for all shots

The only variables are ….

To learn about the golf swing, right from the mouth of the most
talented golfer of all time (including his take on what most amateurs
do wrong), check out this video:

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/jack-nicklaus-one-swing/

It’s not often you get to hear wisdom directly from the mouth of the
best our world has seen…

Imagine learning about sea battle strategy from Horatio Nelson… or
learning about art from Michelangelo… or democracy from Benjamin
Franklin.

Don’t pass this opportunity to learn about the golf swing from a great
one of our great sport!

Too funny! A hilarious deleted scene from Caddyshack…

January 6th, 2011 — 4:57pm

Hi again,

Today’s golf tip? A hilarious deleted scene from the movie Caddyshack.

Bill Murray gives Chevy Chase a golf lesson, with a ridiculously funny
line:

“I’ve been watching you and seeing what the hell you’re up to, and
this is what I see.”

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/caddyshack-bill-murray-gives-a-golf-lesson/

I don’t know where this came from, but it is awesome!

lol – I couldn’t stop laughing…

Reminds me of my Dad, actually… “I’ve been watching you and seeing
what the hell you’re up to, and this is what I see.” And then,
proceeding to give me advice on my swing which actually does not help
anything at all. Usually, it just makes me worse.

(I think it’s a plan he conceived to beat the pants off of me during
money games…)

How to cause massive jealousy on the course

January 6th, 2011 — 4:56pm

Hi again,

When I’m watching the pros play on Sunday, and I see a ball hit the
green and spin back toward the pin…

It feels like something magic happened!

… some kind of TV illusion – a trick – not really real.

But when I’m with somebody who does it purposefully on the course…
that’s another matter altogether. I think to myself… This person has
mad skillz! This person will probably kick my bootay by the end of the
round!

… and I am filled with jealousy.

If you want to be the kind of golfer who causes massive jealousy on
the course… check out this video which reveals the (non) secret to
putting spin on your ball:

http://www.chucktheputter.com/golf-tips/put-spin-on-your-golf-ball/

Video is 1 minute, 35 seconds, by Chris Artilena, golf instructor for
the Jim McLean golf school at Doral Resort and Spa in Miami Florida.
