Howdy fellow Golfer,

First off, sorry to all you golfers in the great white North. We ‘suthners are about to enjoy some awesome golf over the winter!
(It’s no wonder everybody in the USA retires to Florida and Arizona…)
And since we just released a new version of Swing by Swing with handicaps and Stableford scoring, I expect us ‘suthners will be playing A LOT of golf!
Yesterday we released a new version of SbS for iPhone and Android with a bunch of new features:
Free range finder new features:
- Track the distance of any individual shot. (Sorta like “Club Tracker Lite”)
If you want the real-deal Club Tracker, check out Looper here.

Scorecard new features:
- Play with Stroke Play or Stableford
- Enter Handicaps for each Player
- Quicker score entry
- Updated Scorecard view to include Totals/Net, which holes you’re stroking on, and easy identification of every player
- Scorecard preview when turning the phone into landscape mode
The Scorecard has a free 3-round trial. Even if you took advantage of a free Scorecard trial in the past, you can try it out again with the new features. To start your trial, just load the latest version of Swing by Swing on your phone and play a new round.
Download the latest version by visiting your mobile app store.
Enjoy! (And, don’t forget to let us know what you think about the latest version)

Howdy fellow golfer,
Over the past year, Swing by Swing has been busy upgrading the iPhone and Android operating systems. But, we’ve left the BB version pretty much untouched. To say the least, this has irked a lot of folks.
Today, I’d like to make our BlackBerry position public, and apologize to all Swing by Swing users on the BB platform.
As I’ve explained before, the BB operating system is a nightmare to program for. When they only had 4 versions of the OS, we had basically 48 different systems to account for. Now they have 6 different OS versions! And they keep changing the damn thing with each release and have no backward compatibility.
Basically, it’s like trying to code for 72 different operating environments…
We are just a small 3 person coding team over here, and we’re trying to compete with larger companies, with more funding, and more developers. We’re good, but we have to focus our development effort where it will give the most bang-for-the-buck.
The combination of a difficult coding environment and BlackBerry losing market share has dealt a killer blow to our BB ambitions. We are currently trying to roll out an updated version of SbS for BB which will include Scorecard updates and work with the latest operating systems. It will not include Club Tracker and it will not include Stableford or Handicaps.
When this version is in-the-wild, we will not be releasing an updated version again. We will remove the BB logo and download links from our website. We will make it very difficult for new BB users to find us.
We will continue to support the existing BB software, and you’ll have access to the latest course information and Scorecard and Statistics upgrades.
I understand this will not make a lot of people happy, and I’m sorry for that. I wish BB would get their stuff together and help folks like me help folks like you.
If you want to vent, this is the place to do it. I’ll be around to answer any questions.
Thanks,
Travis
