ATTN BlackBerry Users: Beta Testing begins now…

April 29th, 2010 — 10:04am

Howdy fellow golfers!

We are ready to begin beta testing the next generation of Swing by Swing for the BlackBerry. As a Beta tester, you’ll get first (and free) crack at:

  • A new skin. Much prettier…
  • A new preferences menu, which includes the ability to switch between meters and yards, add your friends, update your info (including email and name) and more.
  • A sweet scorecard module, so you can throw away the paper and pencil. This scorecard is faster and easier than the paper/pencil anyway.
  • Along with the scorecard module, you’ll gain access to analytic functionality like: The ability to keep track of your rounds over time. Stats like greens in regulation, avg putts per hole, scrambles, and so much more…
  • An improved interface, navigation, gps updates, and blah blah blah…

I think you get the idea:

THIS IS A PRETTY BIG DEAL

There are just a few criteria you must meet to help us Beta test the new stuff:

  1. You MUST be an avid golfer. You’ll be required to GOLF, and use SbS on your BB, and post your feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. You’re helping build the most reliable and usable Golf GPS system in the world (regardless of price). We’re doing our part – and if you’re a Beta tester, we expect you to do your part.
  2. You MUST (obviously) own a BlackBerry. We are not Beta testing any other version of phone right now…
  3. You MUST be able to keep your trap shut. This is the kind of stuff our competitors would like to get their hands on… (and we’d prefer they didn’t)

So there it is.

If You Meet the Criteria Above…

And You Want to Be a Beta Tester…

Just scroll to the bottom of this page and leave a comment!

Be sure to include the following information:

  1. Your Name and Email Address (don’t worry – the email address will only be visible to us)
  2. The type of BlackBerry you own
  3. How often you golf

That’s it!

We can only accept a limited number of testers for each phone type, so please leave your comment now!

The Swing by Swing Story

April 15th, 2010 — 11:49am

When we started this little software company of ours, it was just a crazy idea hatched during a round of golf.

One normal day of golf…

Standing on the 10th tee, preparing to embarrass himself on the back nine, my brother (lead developer) told my Dad (lead golf nut) that he could replicate the functionality of his SkyCaddie right on a cell phone.

And then he shanked his drive into the lake. (as he is prone to do)

Shortly after the cussing stopped, he told me the same thing.

I told him his programming skills would need to be better than his golfing skills. And I said – “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

12 months later… after a lot of late nights, Terrence was victorious.

We had a fully functioning GPS rangefinder, and I was looking at it right on my BlackBerry. During a business trip to Tucson I played a round at a course I’d never been on before, getting accurate yardages right off my phone.

I was a believer!

After another 8 months of hard core development… and extensive Beta testing… We went live on the App Store and Internet, for iPhone and BlackBerry. We were signing up 100-200 new golfers per day.

We were ecstatic!

For a short period of time, we averaged 300+ golfers per day. (I thought the wheels were gonna come off the car…)

Now, we’re signing up 1,000-1,200 new golfers every single day. The numbers are still going up…

And we’re scrambling to meet your needs…

* We recently launched a golf scorecard for iPhone, which allows you to keep track of your stats like you are a PGA pro. You can easily keep the score of your entire 4-some (quicker than using a pencil) and analyze each game using our analytic engine.

* We will be launching a scorecard for BlackBerry soon! (Can’t wait for that one)

* We haven’t been able to handle the volume of support requests and questions lately… so we’re implementing a more robust FAQ and forum to better serve you. You can ask questions in the forum, here. Got a good idea for Swing by Swing? You can suggest app improvements and new modules here.

Thanks for being a part of the Swing by Swing community! Without YOU, we’d just be a few more dorks on the golf course. Now, we’re the “cool dorks” on the golf course.

Welcome to the Clubhouse!

April 14th, 2010 — 7:32am

This is the Swing by Swing clubhouse. We’ve had so much explosive growth in the last month… we’ve just been unable to take care of customer support the way we should.

Anyway… the FAQ has needed updated for a long time, and this will be a great way to keep the world informed of events at Swing by Swing. (They are happening fast…)

If you have a question about your Swing by Swing application, the website, or your horoscope, try out the new FAQ section.

If you can’t find the answer to your question in the FAQ’s, or if you just want to talk golf, cruise over to the new forums.

Welcome to the Clubhouse!

Travis
